On Wednesday, March 7, 2012, five University of Wisconsin-Washington County students, Daniel Paegelow, Christopher Kumferman, Theodore Tracy, Leah Uecker, and Maxwell Merget will be presenting their undergraduate research work along with their faculty mentor, Dr. Mohamed Ayoub, Associate Professor of Chemistry, in two posters at the 9th Annual University of Wisconsin System Posters in the Rotunda: A Celebration of Undergraduate Student Research, Madison.  Related website: http://www.wisconsin.edu/posters/archive/2012/index.htm

The UW-WC student team posters are among 13 posters from the UW Colleges.  These posters are entitled “Caffeine ‘Lift’: Natural Bond Orbital Study for a Central Nervous System Stimulant” and “Natural Bond Orbital Study for the Catalytic Destruction of Stratospheric Ozone.”  The students, enrolled in Independent Study of Chemistry (CHE 299) started working on these research projects under Dr. Ayoub’s supervision in the fall semester 2011 and continued in the spring semester 2012.

The UW-WC Chemistry Department has an active undergraduate student research program.  Since 2006, a chemistry student team from UW-WC has annually presented their research work at the UWS Posters in the Rotunda, as well as at the UW Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity in 2011.
