UW-Washington County (UW-WC) will be holding auditions on Tuesday, Nov. 28 for the spring production of A Comedy of Couples. The auditions take place in the campus theatre, beginning at 6pm.
Rick Ponzio, Theatre Director at UW-WC wrote and will direct the play, which is performed in the style of the Italian Comedy or Commedia dell’Arte. Ponzio is looking for six actors “who are very physically and vocally expressive as this style demands agility and excellent timing,” he explained. Area residents, ages 18 and up, as well as UW-WC students are encouraged to audition, with volunteers for backstage, costume, make-up and technical type work also needed. Students can earn college credit for performing or doing behind-the-scenes work for the show.
Candidates for audition do not need to bring prepared material. Everyone will be given numerous opportunities to audition for a variety of roles. Candidates are asked to bring a photo (any size), acting resume (if available) and wear comfortable clothing and shoes that allow free movement.
The main characters include three couples: Leandro and Beatrice; Pantalone and Dottore; and their servants, Truffaldina and Francischino. Three performances of A Comedy of Couples are planned for Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, March 8-10 at 7:30pm. All performances will be in the campus theatre, located on the second floor of the campus.
