Day Trips

Tootsie (Pre-Broadway Showing)

Tootsi

Saturday, September 29, 2018

Price: $269

On Saturday, September 29, 2018, join UWM-Continuing Education at Waukesha and Washington County campuses for another soon-to-be hit musical in its Pre-Broadway run, Tootsie, based on the 1982 film. We have secured seats at Chicago’s Cadillac Palace before it heads to the Great White Way. Tootsie is directed by Scott Ellis (She Loves Me, Elephant Man) and features a new score by David Yazbek (The Band's Visit and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), a book by Robert Horn, and choreography by Denis Jones. Tootsie is about a struggling actor who disguises himself as a woman to secure a role on a soap opera, which leads to romantic and hysterical complications. The film featured Dustin Hoffman. Broadway actor Santino Fontana — the voice of Prince Hans in the animated movie Frozen and recent star in Act One at Lincoln Center will take on the Hoffman role. The $269 trip package includes premium seats, lunch at Macy’s Walnut Room, and Coach USA (a.k.a. our University on Wheels).

Hamilton: An American Musical

Hamilton

Sorry, the October 17th trip is full! We were able to secure another set of tickets for November 7!

Wednesday, November 7, 2018

Price: $169

Everyone is talking about Hamilton and this is your chance to see what everyone is so excited about!

In the past two years, UWM-Washington County has taken close to seven hundred lifelong learners from Continuing Education to see Hamilton. Lin-Manuel Miranda's new American treasure is based on Ron Chernow's 2004 biography of the first U.S. Secretary of the Treasury. It has won 11 Tony Awards, a Grammy, and the Pulitzer Prize for drama.

On Wednesday, November 7, we are bringing the Hamilton opportunity to you! We will be riding to Chicago on a comfortable, deluxe Coach USA. Aboard our "classroom on wheels", retired drama director and travel coordinator Vic Passante will lead our group to Chicago. Along the way, we will discuss Miranda's history and cover the journey of Hamilton from its inception to the Broadway stage.

Plan for a full day! We will stop at Chicago's incredible food court, Revival Food Hall, where you can purchase a variety of Chicago's finest cuisine. Our seats will be in the first several rows of the Upper Balcony of the CIBC Theatre. You will appreciate the energy and power of this phenomenal musical!

We can take 55 community members on this day trip! Make sure you register now and save your spot. We anticipate this to fill fast!

Sorry, the October 17th advertised Hamilton trip is full!

Led by Travel Coordinator Vic Passante

Price: $159

UWM-Continuing Education at Waukesha and Washington County campuses is proud to feature artist Tony Drehfal on a day trip to Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum, and to Still Bend, a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Two Rivers. Tony is internationally recognized as one of the world’s foremost wood engravers. He presently serves on the Wood Engraver's Network leadership team, which is now in the process of partnering with the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum to create a wood engraving exhibit, classroom, and library space within their Two Rivers museum. At the museum, you will receive a guided tour of the world’s largest premier wood type collection.  A tour of Still Bend will round out your experience in Two Rivers. The Bernard Schwartz House is also known as Still Bend or Life Magazine's "Dream House,” since F. L. Wright originally designed the house for the magazine in 1938. The Schwartz House is one of the few Wright homes that allows guests to spend the night. Although you won’t be spending the night there, you will have an opportunity to have lunch in the Still Bend.
