Donald and Barron Ryan, a talented father and son piano duo, will take the stage at UW-Washington County on Friday, January 27 to present their brand of classic and contemporary music. A hit with audiences of all generations, the pair’s inventiveness, infectiousness, skill and general joy of life makes for an inspiring and engaging performance.
Born in Trinidad, Donald came to the U.S. to study music, earning degrees from Oral Roberts University and the University of Tulsa. From classical to jazz, and ragtime to hip-hop, Donald is well known as a master of diverse styles – evidenced by a diploma from the 9th International Chopin Competition as well as his induction into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame.
Donald’s son, Barron has been playing the piano, since the age of four and distinguished himself in piano studies at the University of Oklahoma and has won numerous piano competitions. He’s been a featured soloist at The Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame as well as Tulsa Performing Arts Center. It wasn’t until Barron graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 2009, that the two started playing together professionally. As a performing team, the duo is formally known as Ryan & Ryan, and defined as “where classic meets cool.” The pair amazes audiences with their skill, expressiveness and love of making music and are known for mixing jazz, classical and contemporary music with their keys.
