UW-WC Offers Educational Travel Opportunities

Trips to Savannah and France planned

Two opportunities for educational travel and study are being offered by UW-Washington County (UW-WC) in 2013. Both trips will be led by UW-WC English instructor, Michael Mattek.  A free information session about the tours will be held at UW-WC on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 7:00 p.m., in room 101. The information session includes a presentation, details on all activities and a Q&A with instructor Mike Mattek. 

Exploring Savannah and its Literary History Tour will be offered March 17 to 24, 2013. This trip explores Savannah’s history, character and natural beauty in an unforgettable experience. The tour includes the childhood home of Flannery O’Connor and the sites from Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.  Urban slavery and the Gullah-Geechee culture along the Sea Islands will also be discussed.  The cost is $2,050 per person (based on double occupancy) and includes airfare, accommodations in the heart of the picturesque historic district, daily breakfast and an authentic Gullah-Geechee meal, while visiting St. Helena Island as well as admissions to the selected historical tours. The second trip is a study abroad trip to France and is offered May 17-26, 2013.  Mary Kassum, UW-Waukesha World Languages instructor will co-lead this trip. Highlights include four days in Paris, with visits to Champs-Elysees, L’Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral and the Eiffel Tower. Excursions to Loire Valley and Versailles as well as group travels to Bayeux and cities in Normandy are included.  Cost is $3,995 per person, (based upon double occupancy) and includes airfare, deluxe accommodations, daily breakfast plus seven additional meals, dinner cruise on the Seine, tours and admission.

Anyone seriously interested is encouraged to attend the open house and secure their spot with a $500 non-refundable deposit as space is limited on both trips.    Registration for the information open house is encouraged, but not mandatory.
