UW-WC Music Department Plans May Performances

Moraine Chorus to perform at Holy Hill

The Music Department at UW-Washington County is planning two spring community concerts – with one being held on campus and the other to take place at the Basilica of Holy Hill.

On Sunday, May 4, a combined Washington County Youth Orchestra (WCYO) and Moraine Symphonic Band (MSB) concert will take place in the campus theatre at 3pm. Both groups are under the direction of Dr. Daniel Ackley. Free will offerings are encouraged for the May 4 concert.  No reservations are necessary.  The campus theatre is located on the second floor of the campus, located at 400 University Drive (exit from Hwy. 33) in West Bend.

On Sunday, May 18, the Moraine Chorus concert (originally scheduled for May 11) will take place at the Basilica of Holy Hill at 3pm. The choir, under the direction of UW-WC Music Professor, Peter Gibeau, will present “The Magnificence of Mendelssohn” with the Kettle Moraine Symphony Orchestra.  Selections for the May 18 concert include: Felix Mendelssohn (1809-47): Psalm 115, op. 31.; Felix Mendelssohn: Psalm 42, op. 42; Giovanni Gabrieli (c. 1555-1612): Gloria  a 12 [for 12 parts] from Sacrae Symphoniae, 1597; Giovanni Gabrieli: Exaudi Deus (from Psalm 55, verses 2-4) from Sinfoniae Sacrae, 1615;  Mikhail Ippolitov-Ivanov (1859-1935): Bless the Lord, O my Soul  (sung by the Moraine Chorus, a cappella). Soloists for Psalm 115 include Deanna Gibeau, soprano; David Bertelsen, tenor; and David Mohr, baritone and soloist for Psalm 42 is Deanna Gibeau. Tickets for the May 18 concert with the Kettle Moraine Symphony can be purchased online (www.kmsymphony.org) or at one of the ticket outlets listed on their website. Tickets are $18 adults, $15 seniors and $5 students. The Basilica is located at 1525 Carmel Road in Hubertus.
