UW-Washington County Announces 2013/14 Fine Arts Series

Season tickets now available

The University of Wisconsin-Washington County has announced its theatre schedule for the 2013-14 season. All shows take place in the campus theatre. Auditions listed are open to members of the community.

The Chicago based band, Rio Bamba, will open the series on Friday, September 20 at 7:30pm, performing an exciting blend of Brazilian, Latin and American jazz. With its unique style, the four-member Rio Bamba will crank up the energy and tempos for a dynamic performance. The Brazilian music and photography display tie in with the campus fall lecture series on Brazil.

Other visiting artists include John McCutcheon’s Winter Solstice (Folk Music’s Renaissance Man) on Friday, December 6, John McGivern (Wisconsin’s Favorite Story-Teller) on Friday, January 31, Dervish (Traditional Irish) on Friday, March 14 and Alpin Hong (pianist) on Sunday, April 6. A special “Irish Impressions” concert with the Kettle Moraine Symphony Orchestra and Irish dancers from the Cashel Dennehy School of Irish Dance is also planned for Sunday, March 23.

Two theatre productions directed by UW-WC Professor Brad Ford complete the series. The fall production, The Beauty Queen of Leenane, written by Irish playwright, Martin McDonagh, will be performed November 1-2 and 8-9. Auditions for Beauty Queen of Leenane will be held on Wednesday, September 18 at 7pm in the campus theatre. In spring, the musical comedy, “Don’t Hug Me” written by Phil Olson, will be performed February 28-March 1 and 7-8.

All performances begin at 7:30pm in the University Theatre (located on the second floor of the college at 400 University Drive in West Bend). Free parking is available.
