Before the season started, men's basketball coach Scott Poole's goal was to make it into the conference tournament.
A 9-3 conference record allowed the team to meet that goal. On Feb. 17, the team was in the semi-final game for the conference tournament, but fell to the eventual conference title champion, UW-Marathon.
The playoffs began well for the Wildcats. They pulled off a 65-64 win against Milwaukee Tech, which put them one win away from making it to the state tournament.
The match-up was against UW-Waukesha, a team UW-WC had split with during the regular season. The game was played in Waukesha, where the Wildcats had lost by seven on Jan. 22. This time, UW-Waukesha won 84-58.
Even though the season ended early, Poole is still proud of what his team accomplished.
"The boys are having a great season," he said, "It has been fun and exciting."
The team has had many players step up for them this season.
"Captains Travis Kearns and Josh Dahlen have done a great job this year."
Kearns led the team in scoring, and finished near the top of the conference in scoring leaders, while Dahlen led the conference in assists and steals.
Jared Bublitz was the team's sixth man, always the first person off the bench. Kyle Mueller's athleticism allowed him to be able to guard other teams' big men.
