It Takes 2 to Tango

It seems the West Bend community knows "it don't mean a thing if you ain't got that swing" as let their feet do the talking on Feb. 8 in the cafeteria.

The week prior, the campus had kicked off a $5 dance lesson in preparation for the Omega Lambda Delta Ballroom Dance with Dr. Michael Mattek as both instructor and disk jockey.

The entry fee for the dance was ten dollars that night as both community members and students went through various cultural dances throughout the evening. Newcomers and advanced ballroom dancers mingled on the floor to slower traditional routines such as the waltz to more zesty steps such as salsa or swing.

As the evening progressed, the dancers went from slower three-step dances to fast-paced eight-count beats in which they added their own little flourishes to the traditional dances.

While all the action was on the dance floor, refreshments were offered to in the Fireside Lounge where all dancers were able to converse and rest after jiving to the beat.

The number of participates were better than expected.

"We're very pleased with the turnout," said Jodi Schneeweis, the President of Omega Lambda Delta, who headed up the event that evening accompanied by John Legaspi and Chris Beloin.

The dance was a fundraiser for the Omega Lambda Delta scholarship fund. Through the event, OLD was able to raise more money than in other fundraisers from the last few years.

While this was only Omega Lambda Delta's first time hosting a dance, it hopes to do similar events in the future.
