Bring all relevant
materials to the tutoring session including textbooks, syllabus,
class notes, past papers, assignments and/or tests.
-
Plan to be an active
participant in your session with the tutor.
-
Academic success requires
that you attend class, read assignments, take class notes, and
attempt homework problems.
What courses can a
student receive tutoring?
-
English 098, 101, 102 and all
general writing needs
-
Math 091, 105, 108, 110,
113, 124, 211, 221, 222
-
All other subjects based on student
need
Tutors are available on a
walk-in basis. If there is a particular tutor you would like to
meet with, an appointment time can be scheduled. The Learning Center encourages
students to utilize the space for individual study time and group
study sessions, as well as attending any workshops that might be
offered.
Expectations:
-
Tutors are NOT homework machines or
miracle workers.
-
Tutors will NOT have the answer to
every question all the time.
-
Tutors are NOT the professor of
your class.
-
If you procrastinate all semester,
working and cramming with a tutor the week before finals will
NOT produce great results.
Mission of The Learning Center:
The mission of The Learning
Center is to promote and support the academic environment of the
University of Wisconsin – Washington County by providing free and
confidential student-centered instruction in writing, math, and
other core content areas to currently enrolled students. This is
made possible by empowering students to make strides in their
education through the use of face-to-face interactions between
tutors and students.
