Area photographers are invited to enter UW-Washington County’s (UW-WC) GIVE US YOUR BEST SHOT Photography Competition. The contest is open to all Wisconsin residents who are amateur photographers and at least 16 years of age. Professional photographers (anyone earning 50% or more of their annual income from photography) are not eligible to apply.
This is the second year for the contest. Last year’s contest yielded over 75 entries from across the state. The Washington County Campus Foundation intends to sponsor the photography contest annually and help build a collection of photography on campus, providing additional visual interest and beauty. UW-WC students as well as faculty, staff and the many visitors to the campus have appreciated and enjoyed the photography collection this past year and are already looking forward to viewing the new entries.
Striking digital images in color or black and white - featuring gritty as well as pretty - are welcome. Photographers are encouraged to have fun with it – experimenting with lighting, angles, subjects and composition. If people are included in the submission, the photographer is responsible for obtaining the necessary releases from the individuals depicted.
Each photographer is allowed one digital photo. Photos should be jpeg or tiff attachments, between 1MB and 8MB in size. Resolution should be print quality (240 or higher dpi preferred) as winning photos will be displayed in 11x14 inch size. Photos can be emailed to email@example.com or dropped off on a CD at the campus main office. All entries must be received by UW-WC between October 1 and December 31, 2012. Winning photos become the property of UW-WC which may edit, publish, distribute and republish in any form. Photographers retain the rights to their images. Winners will be determined by a panel of art professionals.
According to Sue Bausch, Director of University Relations, all contest entries will be displayed in the campus library during the Festival of Arts on Saturday, April 6, 2013. The top 15 photos will be framed and displayed in the campus Art Gallery during the Festival and then moved to the main lobby until the 2014 Festival. The top three photos will receive cash prizes ($100, $75 and $50 respectively) and remain on permanent display at UW-Washington County, each with a plaque giving credit to the photographer.
For complete contest rules, visit the campus website, www.washington.uwc.edu or obtain a copy at the main office of the campus at 400 University Drive, West Bend. Contest winners will be announced in late March.
