UW-WC Professor Mike Mattek Receives National Recognition

4/14/10

UW-Washington County’s Assistant Professor of English, Dr. Michael Mattek, has been selected as a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Scholar.  Mattek was chosen from a national applicant pool to attend one of ten summer study opportunities sponsored by NEH. The Endowment is a federal agency that each summer supports Landmarks of American History and Culture workshops so that faculty can work in collaboration and study with experts in humanities disciplines.

Dr. Mattek will participate in a workshop entitled, “Progress and Poverty: the Gilded Age in American Politics and Literature, 1877-1901.”  The one week program will be held in Fremont, Ohio and directed by Steven Culbertson.  Approximately 500 faculty members will participate in the summer workshops and will teach over 87,500 American students the following year.
