UW-WC PLANS MAY 21st COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY

18 BACHELOR & 129 ASSOCIATE DEGREES TO BE AWARDED

The University of Wisconsin-Washington County will recognize the accomplishments of 147 students at the annual commencement ceremony on Thursday evening, May 21.  Students who have completed or will be completing their degree requirements this spring and summer and last year will be recognized at the ceremony. Eighteen students will receive a four-year bachelor degree and 129 students will receive their two-year associate degrees for the 2008-2009 academic year.

The collaborative bachelor degree program allows students to complete a 4-year degree from UW-Milwaukee and UW-Oshkosh, while attending classes in West Bend. Students earning a bachelor degree from UW-Milwaukee include:

The keynote speaker will be Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler.  She earned her law degree from Marquette University in 1989 and began her legal career in private practice where she engaged in civil litigation. Before joining the Supreme Court, Justice Ziegler served as a Washington County Circuit Court Judge.  She was appointed to the bench in 1997, elected in 1998 and re-elected in 2004.  She was the first female jurist in Washington County.  Justice Ziegler is married and has three children. Active in her community, she volunteers for numerous charitable and social welfare organizations.

The student speaker is Nolan Jensen of Slinger, President of Phi Theta Kappa.    

Scholarships totaling over $68,000 as well as departmental awards will also be awarded at the ceremony, which begins with a bagpiper led processional at 7pm in the gymnasium. The Washington County Youth Orchestra will perform prior to the ceremony, beginning at 6:30pm. No tickets are needed to attend.
