UW-WC Plans May 17th Commencement Ceremony

17 Bachelor & 172 Associate Degrees to be Awarded

The University of Wisconsin-Washington County will recognize the accomplishments of 189 students at the annual Commencement ceremony on Thursday evening, May 17.

The keynote speaker is Daniel Selness, Senior Vice President of Spaulding Clinical in West Bend.  Selness holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health Care Administration from Concordia University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Cardinal Stritch University.  Before his employment at Spaulding in 2008, he spent over 16 years in the pharmaceutical industry, working in drug development for two of the top 15 drug companies in the world. As General Manager and Senior Vice President at Spaulding, he is responsible for the overall operations of the Clinical Research Business units. Spaulding offers the complete suite research services to pharmaceutical companies throughout the world, including the proprietary Spaulding iQ Electrocardiograph, and expertly trained cardiologists and project managers.

The student speaker is Sadie Hennig of Kewaskum, President of Phi Theta Kappa.  A graduate of Kewaskum High School, Hennig plans to complete her degree in Animal Science at UW-River Falls.

Students, who have recently completed or will be completing their degree requirements this summer, will be recognized at the ceremony. Seventeen students will receive a four-year bachelor degree and 172 students will receive their two-year associate degrees for the 2011-2012 academic year.

The collaborative bachelor degree program allows students to complete a 4-year degree from UW-Milwaukee and UW-Oshkosh, while attending classes in West Bend. Students earning a bachelor degree from UW-Milwaukee include:

Scholarships totaling over $68,000 as well as departmental awards will also be awarded at the ceremony, which begins with a bagpiper led processional at 7pm in the gymnasium. The alumna of the year award will be presented to former West Bend mayor, Kristine Deiss. The Moraine Saxophone Ensemble will perform prior to the ceremony, (beginning at 6:30pm) as well as the recessional. No tickets are needed to attend.
