UW-Washington County is planning a Health and Wellness Fair to be held at the campus on Wednesday, April 18. Admission to the fair is free and activities include a blood drive, wellness fair (with exhibits from many area organizations) and free heart screenings. The heart screenings are possible - thanks to a joint effort between Spaulding Clinical, C.A.R.E. (Cardiac Arrhythmias Research and Education Foundation, Inc.) and UW-WC.
Times and locations are as follows:
- Blood Drive, Campus Gym, 9:00am – 1pm
- Wellness Fair, Campus Gym, 10am – 1pm
- Heart Screenings (ages 5-22), Room 101, 10am-5pm
Every year, more than 325,000 Americans die from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). It is estimated that SCA claims the lives of up to 7,000 children and young adults each year in the U.S. One way to prevent SCA is to get an electrocardiogram (ECG). If heart problems are detected early, there are safe and effective treatments available. To participate in the screenings, a signed consent form is required.
For children of minor age, a parent must sign. The forms will be available at the fair or can be downloaded from the campus website, www.washington.uwc.edu (click on health fair).
The wellness fair also provides information on important topics related to health and wellness as well as demonstrations and freebies. Participants include Froedtert Health West Bend Rehabilitation Center, Genesis Mental Health, Kettle Moraine Chiropractic, Riverside Chiropractic, UW Colleges AODA, and many others.
UW-WC is located at 400 University Drive in West Bend. Parking is available in the student lot and also on the street.
