John Cowan Band at UW-WC on Friday, Dec. 4th

Former New Grass Revival & Doobie Brothers member to perform
11/23/09

If you remember and liked the music from the New Grass Revival band from the 1970s, then you may want to purchase tickets for Friday, December 4th concert at UW-Washington County. John Cowan, former lead singer for the New Grass Revival, will perform with his own band at 7:30pm in the campus theatre. From bluegrass, newgrass, gospelgrass to rock n’roll grass, John and his band are true innovators with loads of talent. This is the third concert in the Fine Arts Series that UW-Washington County presents each academic year.

Cowan’s ability to take audiences on a musical journey through multiple genres has made him one of the most unique vocal artists of his generation. Band members include John on bass and lead vocals, Jeff Autry on guitar (acknowledged as one of America’s best flat-pickers), John Frazier on mandolin (a true rising star in the acoustic world), Shad “Lightning” Cobb on fiddle (world renowned for his blazing finger work) and Bryon Larrance on percussion (the newest addition to JCB, allowing for an expanded repertoire).

The 90 minute concert will feature songs from the band’s latest CD, New Tattoo, as well as old favorites from New Grass Revival days and always a few surprises! According to Cowan, “Our music has evolved organically, its rooted in my New Grass days but I’m also exploring and breaking new ground as well…these guys are very talented and I love playing with ‘em…of course the true measure is the fantastic response we’ve gotten from audiences on tour, we love performing, its food for the soul.”  After leaving New Grass, Cowan joined the Doobie Brothers in the 90s before forming his own band.
