Ariane Lydon to Perform at UW-WC

Wisconsin Singer and Songwriter here on Friday, April 1st
3/16/11

Singer and songwriter, simply doesn’t do justice to Ariane Lydon’s masterful work on six and twelve-string guitar, Celtic harp, keyboards and lyrics, not to mention her incredible voice.  Lydon will be performing in UW-Washington County’s Theatre on the Hill on Friday evening, April 1 at 7:30pm.

With an award-winning classical background and Celtic roots plus a myriad of ethnic flavors, Ariane’s original songs, daring instrumentals and sly remakes of old standards never fail to move audiences and critics alike. She has released six CDs including: Lady of the Green, Still She Moves, Harp in Flower, The Open Harp, Songs for the Sleepy and her latest, Listen to Crows. Her ability to play the Celtic harp and 12-string guitar simultaneously has captivated audiences and critics alike.

After a performance in Marshfield, Wisconsin, Cindi Elli of The Marshfield Mail, wrote: …a superb performance by the multi-talented Ariane Lydon. Performing in concert at the Jubilee Theatre, Lydon closed the show to a standing ovation and encore as the audience chanted, “one more, one more.”

Born in Sussex, England, to a British civil servant and a New York artist, Lydon lived in Santiago, Chile until she was ten. Her mother, herself a daughter of a jazz and ragtime pianist, immersed Ariane in classical piano music from the age of seven. At the age of 14, she received a second place finish at the International Piano Competition in Paris. Her debut as an artist took place when Lena Spencer booked Ariane along with hammer dulcimer virtuoso Jem Moore at her famous Café Lena’s in New York.  Upon hearing Ariane sing, Spencer insisted: “This is a voice the world needs to hear.”

Tickets for this concert are $12 for adults, and $9 for seniors (over 62) or youth (under 18). Free parking is available.
