Q. Where is the best place to
save on the school's computers?
A. The Best Place to save your work is on your Z: Drive. There is
an icon on your desktop called Z: Drive. Double clicking on
this icon will open your Z: Drive -- your personal storage space
which you can access from any computer on campus.
Q. Why can't I get my document
off my floppy disk?
A. Chances are the floppy disk is damaged. We suggest using your Z:
drive for documents that you do not need to take home. If you need to take a
document
home with you, you can e-mail it to yourself as an attachment (and
go home and log on to e-mail and open the attachment) or use a
floppy disk. However, we strongly suggest that you
always make a back up copy of the floppy disk either on another
floppy, or on your Z: drive.
Q. How do I check my paper
account balance?
A. The first $10.00 of printing is included in student fees. To
check your balance, click on the paper account icon on the taskbar.
If a message comes up saying "Not set", it just means you
haven't used any paper yet. If you need to add paper to your account,
click here for a request form. Additional paper is .05/page for
black and white, and .25/page for color.
Q. What is the link for Desire 2 Learn (D2L)?
A. Click here:
https://uwc.courses.wisconsin.edu/
Q. How do I
listen to audio in the labs?
A. You can buy your own in the bookstore or you can check them
out from the library. There is a head phone jack on the left side
of the monitor, you can plug them in there.
Q. What is a Z: Drive?
A. It is a network drive that is backed up every night. You can
use it on any computer on campus. Always save your
work in your Z: drive, as it is much more reliable than a floppy
disk. It will stay in that folder until you delete it. Each
student has a 50 MB limit on the Z: drive.
Q. Why am I getting a
message that says I can't receive anymore emails?
A. When you delete something from your Inbox, it isn't really deleted.
It puts it into a Deleted Items box. Also when you send an email
it keeps a copy for you in your Sent Items box. If you want the
Sent Items gone, delete them, and then go into Deleted Items and
delete the messages from that folder as well. Once you clear
out some messages, you will again be able to receive messages.
Each mailbox has a 10 MB limit, so be aware of large attachments
that can eat up a lot of space.
Q. Why did I get an
email from the Administrator saying my inbox is full?
A. Refer to question above. What this means is that your email account
has too many emails. Try deleting your sent items folder or your
deleted items folder.
Q. How do I check my
school email?
A. You go to http://washington.uwc.edu/,
which is the homepage for the school. From there click on Campus
Email, and follow the directions on how to enter your username and
password. You can also access campus mail directly at
http://www.uwc.edu/exchange
Q. How do I get wireless access?
A. The campus wireless system is now accessible to all
students and staff through the captive portal system. Just connect your
wireless device to the UWWC wireless network, login with your full
campus email address and password.
