Description

The Death of Artemio Cruz bookcoverBook Discussion: The Death of Artemio Cruz by Carlos Fuentes
Oct. 1, Oct, 8, Oct. 15 - Room 101
Book Discussion meets prior to the Focus on Mexico Lecture series in Room 228 at 6:30pm.

The discussion will be led by UW-WC English Professor, Dr. Anne Widmayer. Originally published in 1962, The Death of Artemio Cruz captures a very turbulent 70 years of Mexican history, from 1889 to 1959. Author Carlos Fuentes, widely regarded as one of Mexico’s greatest 20th century novelists, commentators and intellectuals, tells the story of Artemio Cruz’s life against the background of the story of Mexico itself. The cleverly constructed novel uses a series of flashbacks with its twists and turns of events, to share a view of a corrupt Mexico, its culture, traditions and ultimately history. There is no cost to participate in the book discussion. To register or for more information, phone 262-335-5214 or email: jennifer.chamberlain@uwc.edu

Interested participants should purchase the book on their own. A limited number of books are available for loan from the UW-WC library.
