Professional Development Policy
Goals:
The mission statement of the U.W. Colleges, the U.W.C. Department of
History, and the U.W. Administrative Code require the promoting of professional
activities that enhance teaching and the profession’s and public’s
understanding of the past. These
activities include, but are not limited to, research and writing and
participation in professional organizations at international, national,
regional, and community levels. The
goal of this policy is to support professional activities that benefit the (1)
entire department; (2) support those with limited funding resources; (3)
supplement those who can draw on multiple resources; (4) promote participation
at professional meetings; and (5) promote attendance at professional meetings.
To assist these activities the department establishes the following
procedures and priorities for the expenditure of departmental professional
development funds.
Policies:
1.
All monies budgeted for professional development will be used for that
purpose.
2.
Recipients of department professional development monies must file a
final
report on their project by the end of the fiscal year that will be
reviewed by the
Professional Development Committee.
3.
All grant proposals will be submitted to the Executive Committee, which
acting as the Professional Development Committee will:
a. Establish deadlines
for proposal submission.
b. Review all
proposals.
c. Make funding
recommendations to the department chair.
d. Assess the results
of all funded professional development projects to
see
that they further the department’s professional development goals.
e. Every two years
review these policies and priorities.
f. Assist the chair in
developing the professional development budget.
Expenditure
Priorities:
1.
Priority 1: Proposals, which will benefit the professional development of
the whole department. (This
may include, but is not restricted to, conferences,
attendance at conferences as a group, or speakers).
2.
Priority 2: Research activities by tenure-track faculty.
Priority will be given
to department members who have not received funding in the past academic
year.
3.
Priority 3: Research by Teaching Academic Staff. Priority will be given
to
department members who have not received funding in the past academic
year.
4.
Priority 4: Supplementing campus professional development funds for
tenured and tenure-track faculty to present a paper at a professional
meeting.
5.
Priority 5: Supplementing campus professional development funds for
tenured and tenure-track faculty attending professional meetings.
6.
Priority 6:
Supplementing campus professional development funds for
Teaching Academic Staff to present a paper at a profession meeting.
7.
Priority 7:
Supplementing campus professional development funds for
Teaching Academic Staff to attend a professional meeting.
