Phlebotomy Technician Exam Preparation Program

This 90 hour exam preparation course prepares professionals to collect blood specimens from clients for the purpose of laboratory analysis. Students will become familiar with all aspects related to blood collection and develop comprehensive skills to perform venipunctures completely and safely. Classroom and lab work includes terminology, anatomy and physiology- blood collection procedures, specimen hands-on practice, and training in skills and techniques to perform puncture methods.

Pharmacy Technician Exam Preparation Program

According to the U.S. Department of Labor projections, employment of pharmacy technicians is to increase by
31 percent from 2008-2018, which is growing significantly faster than the average for all occupations. Now
more than ever, is the time to begin your career as a Pharmacy Technician!

This comprehensive 50 hour exam preparation course will prepare students to explore the pharmacy field and take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board’s PTCB exam. Technicians work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies and other health care settings – working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn dosage calculations, I.V. flow rates, drug compounding, dose conversions, dispensing of prescriptions, inventory control and billing and reimbursement. Clinical Medical Assistant Exam Preparation Program – 140 Classroom Hours + a Clinical Externship

This program is intended for students who want to prepare for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career in healthcare. This program will train students to assist physicians by performing functions related to the clinical responsibilities of a medical office. Instruction includes among other things preparing patients for examination and treatment, routine laboratory procedures, diagnostic testing, technical aspects of phlebotomy and the cardiac life cycle. Students will review important topics including phlebotomy, pharmacology, the proper use and administration of medications, taking and documenting vital signs, cardiology including proper lead placements, a professional workplace behavior, ethics and the legal aspects of healthcare. This program includes 140 hours of classroom lecture and hands on labs and a clinical externship opportunity at a local healthcare provider. To be eligible for the clinical rotation, students must successfully complete the 140 hour program, submit to a thorough background check, drug screening and meet other requirements. Note: Upon successful completion of this program, students would be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) national examination.

The University of Wisconsin-Washington County (UW-WC) in Cooperation with the West Bend Economic Development Corporation hosts advising sessions at the UW-WC campus.
