Campus Book Discussion on The Death of Artemio Cruz by Carlos Fuentes
In conjunction with the campus lecture series on Mexico, the library will be hosting a 3 week book discussion. Following his death in 2012, the New York Times called Fuentes “one of the most admired writers in the Spanish-speaking world.” Although he never won, Fuentes was often named as a likely Nobel Prize in Literature candidate. In The Death of Artemio Cruz, Fuentes tells the story of modern Mexico through the eyes of a wealthy and powerful Mexican figure on his deathbed. Discussions will be facilitated by English professor, Dr. Anne Widmayer.
Limited copies of the book are available for check-out in the library. The book club will meet for three consecutive Wednesdays, Oct. 1, 8 and 15th in room 101 at 5:00 p.m. Participants are welcome to bring along a bag supper.
