UW-WC’S Moraine Chorus to Perform Dante's Divine Comedy

Concert Dates are Dec. 5 and Dec. 11

Area residents are invited to attend a winter concert on Sunday, December 11 at 2pm in the campus theatre at UW-Washington County. The concert is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be collected for the West Bend Food Pantry. The choir will also perform on Monday, December 5 at St. James Episcopal Church at 7:30pm. St James’ is located at 148 South Eighth Avenue in West Bend.

This year’s concert will feature an exploration of Dante’s Divine Comedy--Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. The music, some serious and some humorous, depicts various aspects of vice such as lust, gluttony, greed, hypocrisy, envy and pride. Readings describe how the vices are punished in the Inferno or purged in Purgatory.  Slides of artworks inspired by the Comedy will be projected, such as Rodin’s Thinker (who was Dante), and The Kiss (Francesca da Rimini and Paolo—who Dante meets in the 2nd circle of hell), as well as illustrations by Botticelli, Blake and Doré.

The Moraine Chorus meets weekly for practice and is directed by UW-WC Music Professor, Dr. Peter Gibeau. UW-Washington County students as well as community members are welcome to join the Chorus. For information about membership or the upcoming concerts, contact Dr. Peter Gibeau at 262-335-5216 or email: peter.gibeau@uwc.edu  UW-Washington County is located at 400 University Drive (off Hwy. 33 West) in West Bend.
