UW-WC Prepares for Fish Fry Frenzy

New Event to Benefit HOPE Scholarship Fund

If you enjoy a good fish fry, then you won’t want to miss UW-Washington County’s first annual Fish Fry Frenzy event, where who has the “Best Fish Fry in Washington County”  will be determined. Seven popular area restaurants will be serving up delicious fish and sides from 4:30pm to 8:00pm on Thursday, November 3in the UW-Washington County gym.  For $20, adult ticket holders will enjoy fish and one side from each of the seven restaurants, plus a free dessert, and beverages. Children’s tickets (ages 7-14) are just $7.

In addition to good food, the evening promises lots of fun. Area musicians including the Hillman Singers, Jeff Winard, the Polka Guy, and the Milwaukee Ukelele Club will provide live music. For added excitement, every half- hour, a mega competition is being planned. Event goers will be able to watch on the big screen as energetic minnows race to the finish line. Weighing in at sizes ranging from one ounce to a whopping 2 ounces, the minnows are up for sponsorship for only $5 each (which includes naming rights too).

Participating restaurants for Fish Fry Frenzy include: Bryan’s Catering (The Columbian), Call of the Wild, Emily’s, EZN, MJ Stevens, Riverside Brewery and Schwai’s Catering.  Desserts will be provided by Imagine Coffee House & Catering Co. Beer and root beer samples are courtesy of Riverside Brewery, West Bend 7-Up Bottling Company will provide soda, and Jeff’s Spirits will offer domestic beer and wine selections.

All event proceeds will benefit the campus HOPE Scholarship fund. The HOPE fund is a special program created by the Washington County Campus Foundation to help selected students with their educational expenses at UW-WC.   H.O.P. E. stands for “Helping Optimize Potential Excellence.”  According to Iva Thelen, Executive Director of the Washington County Campus Foundation, “Often times, finding a way to pay for college can be the one critical factor that determines whether a student will attend college or not attend. We created this event to help support financially challenged students in our community through our HOPE Scholarship Fund.  This is why we are very excited to introduce this exciting new annual event to the community!   It will make such a difference in our most vital community resource, our citizens,” Thelen said.

A panel of judges that includes UW-Colleges & UW-Extension Chancellor, Ray Cross and UW-WC Dean, Paul Price, will determine the best fish fry.  In addition those in attendance will have an opportunity to vote for Washington’s County best fish fry, earning that restaurant the “People’s Choice award.”

For tickets, contact UW-Washington County at 262-335-5208 or any of the participating restaurants.
