Tuition Raffle at UW-WC to Raise Funds for New Scholarships

H.O.P.E. Scholarships to provide financial support

A semester of free tuition at UW-Washington County (or $1500 cash) is the top prize in a recently launched Tuition Raffle, sponsored by the Washington County Campus Foundation (WCCF).  The free tuition has a minimum value of $2300 and is for Wisconsin residents only; valid through September 2012.

Proceeds from the Tuition raffle will help fund a new scholarship program at UW-WC. The program is called H.O.P.E., which stands for Helping Optimize Potential Excellence. These new scholarships will be provided to UW-WC students who do not have the financial resources to continue their educational goals, but have the personal desire and commitment to succeed. There are no set eligibility requirements for the scholarships. The H.O.P.E. Scholarships are in the form of a loan and upon successful completion of the semester, the loan is forgiven and students may apply for the next semester. If the semester is not successfully completed, the loan must be repaid. H.O.P.E. Scholarships will be offered to UW-WC students beginning in the fall of 2010, with the actual number and amount of scholarships to be determined by the level of support received.

According to Terry Goerne, Executive Director of WCCF, “I firmly believe in the concept of the new H.O.P.E. Scholarship program, as it will provide tremendous new opportunities for students who may not qualify for traditional scholarships. Our goal is that the tuition raffle becomes a successful annual fundraiser for this new program, allowing for increased expansion as to the number and amount of scholarships offered.”

Other raffle prizes include four season tickets to the UW-WC Fine Arts series (a $330 value), $200 cash and $100 cash. Raffle tickets sell for $5 each or three for $10 and are available from the main office at the campus as well as these locations: Associated Bank (Hartford), Camera Case (all locations), First Bank of Hartford, First National Bank of Hartford, Glacier Hills Credit Union (all locations), Hartford Savings Bank, and Mayville Savings Bank. Tickets can also be obtained by phoning the campus at 262-335-5208.

The drawing for the Tuition raffle will be held on Thursday evening, May 20 during the Commencement ceremony at UW-WC. The ceremony begins at 7pm in the gym. It’s not necessary to be present to win. UW-Washington County is located at 400 University Drive in West Bend. Free parking is available.
