The Queen’s Cartoonists, a six-man jazz band from New York, specializing in music from cartoons, will take the stage at UW-Washington County on Friday, February 16 to present their fun and diverse music. A hit with audiences of all generations, the band’s “musical mission” includes equal parts of music preservation, education and performance. Described as “the zaniest and most creative music” out of the swing era, the concert promises to be a very entertaining cross-generational concert experience.
Joel Pierson, keyboardist and founder, formed the jazz band after he moved to New York in 2015. Other members include Rossen Nedelchev (drums), Ian Hutchinson (bass), Drew Pitcher (saxophone), Mark Phillips (woodwinds) and Greg Hammontree (trumpet). According to Pierson, the music “is so hard for the horn players, they need 30 seconds to a minute between every number or they burn out.” In addition to classic cartoon music that was written and adapted for classic cartoons from Warner Bros and Disney, the group plays similar music from films, including the Muppets, Star Wars, and more. Band members also explain where the music came much of it from famous composers - and what it is about.
Advance tickets for the 7:30pm The Queen’s Cartoonists concert are $20 adults, $18 seniors (over 62) and youth (under 18).
