An extraordinary evening of classical guitar music is being presented at UW-Washington County (UWWC) on Friday, April 3, beginning at 7:30pm. The Minneapolis Guitar Quartet will perform in the campus theatre at 400 University Drive (just off Hwy. 33 West) in West Bend.
With the passion, style and musical sophistication borrowing from the best chamber music and string quartet traditions, the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet has successfully made its case as one of the world’s leading guitar ensembles, since its founding in 1986. The four talented musicians include: O. Nicholas Raths, a music professor at St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota; Jeff Lambert, a chamber musician and composer whose debut solo, Guitar Recital was released in 2003; Joseph Hagerdorn, a music professor at UW-River Falls and past winner of the Guitar Foundation of America Solo Competition; and Jeffrey Thygeson who is on the music faculty at the University of St. Thomas. More information about the group can be found on their website: www.minneapolisguitarquartet.com
The program features two original numbers entitled Minnesota Winter and Chicago Summer, both written by Jeff Lambert. Other songs include Six Pieces of Spanish Folksongs (Granados); Windy (Piazzola); and Toccata in D, BWV 912 (Bach) as well as other classics.
Tickets for this concert are $12 for adults, and $9 for seniors (over 62) or youth (under 18). Free parking is available in the student lot.
