The University of Milwaukee at Washington County came in second place in the 2018 Wisconsin Space Grant College Rocket Competition recently held at the Richard Bong Recreational Park in Kansasville, WI. Washington County’s five-member student team for the “Wildcat Rocketry” included Shane Flynn, Joseph Gawrys, Kota Grauden, Max Read and Vanessa Sawatzke.
In first place with 86.3 points was UW-Fox Valley Rocketeers. Washington County’s team earned 83.9 points, followed by UW-Platteville with 75.3 points in third place. Other participating college teams included Carroll, Carthage, Marquette, MSOE, UW-Green Bay, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Sheboygan.
Advisors for the students are Dr. Swapnil Tripathi (Astronomy/Physics) and Guy Campbell (Engineering). The competition was held at Richard Bong State Recreational Area in Kansasville, Wisconsin. The student team received a cash prize of $2,000 and the opportunity to participate in other Space Grant activities.
