GAME NOTES: We played a great game. We lost to Marinette earlier in the year by 1 point at Marinette. The ladies came out and set the tone early on. I am so proud of the way they came out, everyone contributed and it was a total team win. The Wildcats out rebounded the Buccaneers 59-36. Megan Giersch led the Wildcats with 15 rebounds. Dana Konop grabbed 11 rebounds and Amber Held grabbed 10. Dana Konop led us with 21 points and Amber Held scored 13. Dana was able to set the tone for us early on. We kept giving her the ball inside and good things were happening. I could tell the way the ladies played that nothing was going to stop us. They played their best game of the season. I am so proud of everyone of them. They have worked so hard this season and they have accomplished something that hasn't been done in awhile.

We look forward to Friday night's match-up vs UW-Waukesha at 6pm. The game will be held at UW-Waukesha.

GAME NOTES:
It was an all-around great game for us. We executed our game plan to perfection. We pushed the ball on offense resulting in a lot of transition points. Defensively, we applied a ton of pressure that forced UW-Fox into 33 turnovers. Another key to the big victory was our ability to rebound the basket ball. Overall, we only shot 35% from the field but we helped ourselves by grabbing 33 offensive rebounds which was outstanding. I am proud of the way we played today, we knew that we had been starting slow lately and we didn't want that to happen again. We came out with a lot of intensity right away and set the tone. That was huge. Jenna Diehl did a great job running the offense and she did a great job pushing the ball up the court. She led us with 17 points. Megan Giersch also had a great game netting 10 points, 13 rebounds, 6 blocks, and 6 steals. Megan has been getting better and better throughout the season and she had her breakout game tonight. I am so proud of how hard she has worked this season, she has the opportunity to be a very special player if she continues to work for it. Amber Held scored 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Other notes: Our defense held UW-Fox to 13.6% shooting. We allowed a season low 22 points.

GAME NOTES:

"The Wildcats dropped to 2-5 in conference with a tough loss to Richland Center. It was a very physical game that kind of caught us off guard at first but we were able to battle back and get back into the game. It is very disappointing to lose this game because it drops us to 2-5 in conference. Despite the loss, I felt that we played a really good game, but again the slow starts have been hurting us big time. Richland Center gained the edge at the free throw line shooting 27-37, while we were only 1-4 from the line. Amber Held led the wildcats with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Jenna Diehl also had a solid game with 8 points, 5 assists and 6 steals. Jenna has done a great job for us all year. I never coached someone that has as much passion for the game as she does. Another player worthy of recognition is Megan Giersch. She finished with 4 points and 9 rebounds. Megan was huge for us, especially in the second half. She had her best game of the year and was a big reason why we were in it at the end. It is great to see her emerging into the player I know she can be. The Wildcats shot 24-51 in the game and only committed 14 turnovers. It was a great team effort and I am very proud of how hard my girls played. Its disappointing to lose, but I know we have some better days ahead."

"Wildcats lost a tough road game. We had to battle foul trouble with Jenna Diehl and Dana Konop. Jenna only played 15 minutes due to foul trouble which really hurt us. She is the spark plug that runs our team; we struggled offensively without her. Overall, we played a pretty good game but we missed some key free throws down the stretch. 33% from the line for the game (3-9). Fond du lac packed everything inside and it was tough to get the ball inside because we couldn't hit enough shots from the outside. We shot 37% from the field. Amber held led us with 24 points and 13 rebounds."

GAME NOTES:

"UW-Waukesha has a great team, 15-0 overall. They have a good inside game and in my opinion they may have the best two guards in the conference with a ton of depth. We could not overcome their pressure. They forced us into 51 turnovers which resulted in 58 points off our turnovers. Once we were able to get the ball into the 1/2 court we did well. Dana Konop led the wildcats with 27 points and also added 11 rebounds. Amber Held scored 12 and had 13 rebounds. "We need to take care of the ball in order to play our game and that is getting the ball inside." "We have to turn around quick and get ready for Fond du lac on Wednesday (at Fond du lac)."

GAME NOTES:

"The Lady Wildcats started the second semester off strong with a 71-66 win vs UW-Rock on Saturday. We wanted to come out strong and set the tempo for the rest of the semester. We did just that by taking a 31-9 lead early in the first half. UW-Rock played hard and were able to battle back. You have to tip your hat to them. They never gave up. The key to the game was our ability to rebound the basketball. UW-Washington County was led by the two captains, Amber Held and Dana Konop (both Hartford high school alumni). This was the first game back for Dana, who wasn't able to play first semester due to an ankle injury. Dana is going to be huge for us because she is so strong inside and does a great job rebounding. It is fun to watch her and Amber dominate in the post. The dynamic duo combined for 51 of the 71 points and 28 rebounds. Amber scored 33 points and 17 rebounds and Dana had 18 points and 11 rebounds. We kept pounding the ball into the post and UW-Rock didn't have an answer. Jenna Diehl also had a solid game with 11 points, 7 assists and 3 steals. Also worthy of praise is Sarah Kaul who finished with 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals. Sarah is the type of player that any coach would love. She is always the first at practice and she shows incredible desire to become a better player. Her work ethic is unbelievable."

GAME NOTES:

It was a total team effort. From the start we came out with great defensive intensity. We held MATC to 30% Field goal percentage for the game. We did a great job rebounding. That helped us in the running game, which allowed us to get some easy baskets. Amber Held led us with 21 rebounds (2nd 20+ rebound game in a row) and also scored 14 points. Also contributing on the boards were Megan Giersch and Michelle Monroe with 8 each. They played a 2-3 zone the entire game and we did an excellent job swinging the ball. Christina Cardarelle led us in scoring with 15 points, including 3 three pointers. Jenna Diehl and Jess Tock scored 12 points each. This was a big win for us because it will help us get a better seat come regional time. Our region consists of UW-Waukesha (loss), UW Fond du lac (Win) and MATC (win). We took a big step forward tonight, and we hope to carry that into our game @ UW-Marathon on Saturday.

GAME NOTES:
The first half was a struggle for us. We shot only 31% from the field in the first half. I knew we were a better team that what we showed in the first half. The 2nd half was a different story. We held UW-Fox to 9 pts in the 2nd half on 3 of 25 (12%) shooting from the field. Offensively, we shot 17 for 33 (52%) from the field scoring 36 2nd half points. UW-Fox played a lot of 2-3 zone defense with a little mix up of man-to-man. I think offensively in the first half the 2-3 zone threw us off a little bit because we have not seen a lot of zone this year. But we made adjustments at half and we were able to execute very well in the second half. Another adjustment we made at half time was that we wanted to pick up the tempo and push the ball. We also picked up our defense in that second half and thus we were able to get some points out of our transition game. Defensively, Jess Tock and Sarah Kaul really gave us some energy in the second half with defensive intensity. Jess Tock finished 4 steals. Sarah Kaul finished with 3 steals. I also want to praise Christina Cardarelle, who had the assignment of guarding Melanie Marquis, (a UW-Fox top player) and a very good 3 point shooter. She held her to 8 points (well below her average) on 3 of 9 shooting from the field and 0 for 2 from 3 point range. She also forced her into committing 8 turnovers. Christina has been my defensive stopper this year and has been doing a great job thus far. Jess Tock led the Wildcats with 17 points and Amber Held had her usual double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Also contributing offensively is newcomer Jenna Diehl from Slinger High School, she scored 10 points off the bench. This was a great win for us. I am very proud of the way that we responded in that second half. Now we have to carry this momentum to Saturday's game vs Western Wisconsin Tech. We are 2-2 in conference and 2-2 overall.

Wildcats lose big on the road at UW-Waukesha
We dug ourselves a hole early going down by 16 points in the first 5 minutes. We were able to work our way back to within 6 pts (28-22) with about 6 minutes left in the first half. "I was very proud of the way the ladies didn't get down and they battled back." But, that is the closest we were able to get. They came out and pressed us and we didn't do a good job of taking care of the ball. We knew they would do a 1-2-1-1 full court trapping press and mix it up with a full court man-to -man press, but we just didn't execute our press break well enough. UW-WC turned the ball over 31 times. "It's been a problem for us every game thus far, we work on it in practice everyday, we focus on it every game, and we are still having troubles handling pressure. It is very disappointing and we have to figure it out soon." UW-Waukesha plays a very aggressive defense that took us out of our rhythm on offense. "The pressure rattled us the whole game. Most of my girls have not seen this type of pressure before." Amber Held led the Wildcats with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Megan Giersch finished with 11 points. "UW-Waukesha has a great basketball program, we have to tip our hats to them. They were the better team and now we have to motivate ourselves to get to their level. Its a challenge that we are looking forward to."

UW-WC lost by 1 point on the road at UW-Marinette. "It was a tough game to lose because overall we played our best game of the season. The girls came out with a lot of intensity. We had a very good first half despite getting only 5 minutes out of Amber Held who picked up 2 fouls early in the game. We came into the game focusing on shutting down LaRae Kostreva, a 6'1 sophomore who earned all state and all conference honors last season. When Held got into foul trouble early, we put Michelle Monroe, a freshman from Ozaukee HS, on LaRae. We held Kostreva to 4 points in the first half. "Michelle did a phenomenal job on LaRae. She really set the intensity level with her hustle." Going into the half, UW-WC led 25-17. But Kostreva stepped her game up in the 2nd half and scored 15 second half points to overcome the 8 point half time deficit. " Kostreva is a great player and we knew that. She hurt us in the 2nd half, But I felt like we made her earn every basket." The lead went back and forth in the 2nd half. With 2 minutes remaining we were down 5 points. Abby Schleif had 2 big free throws and Christina Cardarelle came up with a huge steal with under a minute remaining and she took it in for a breakaway lay up. That put us within 1 point. We then got a big defensive stop with 7 seconds remaining. We executed our play out of the time out perfectly and got a great look and the end of the game, but it just didn't fall for us. " We can't ask for much more than that, on the road with the last shot to win." Abby Scheif led us in scoring with 13 points. " Abby has proved to me that she can contribute big time to this team. I am very proud of the way she played." Cardarelle and Monroe added 9 points a piece. " It was very disappointing to lose this game but I was really happy with the effort the Ladies gave. They left everything on the floor, and I can't ask for more than that."

Christina Cardarelle hit 3 three pointers in the 2nd half to help the UW-Washington County Wildcats win their first conference game of the year. Cardarelle finished with 13 points and 5 steals. "Wow, Christina came through for us with some big shots down the stretch, She was a difference maker tonight," Coach Thull added. Amber Held was also a force, she scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Jess Tock also added 11 points. Coach Thull also mentioned the play of Sarah Kaul, "She does the little things and that can not go unnoticed." The Wildcats are 1-0 in conference and 1-0 overall.

" I am really encouraged with the effort that we gave. We know what we have now. This team has a lot of potential and I have a team that puts in the effort."
