Academics

Add/Drop/Withdraw Information

For a complete description of all academic regulations, please refer to the current UW Colleges Catalog available from the Student Services Office.

Adding Classes

You may add a course(s) at any time up until the first day of classes via the “Add a Class” function in PRISM. Starting with the first day of classes, you need to obtain a course permission number from the class instructor and then use this number to register for the class in PRISM.

Dropping Classes

You may drop a course(s) online at any time up until the first day of classes via the “Drop a Class” function in PRISM.

If you fail to complete the drop procedure and simply stop attending class, you will receive an official grade of F. The date you return the completed drop form to the Office of Student Services is the effective date used for official records and billing purposes.

The last day to drop a course without record is the first two weeks of the semester for semester-long courses and the first week of the session for 10-week, 8-week and 5-week courses. A grade of W will be recorded on your official record if you drop a course after this time.

It is the student’s responsibility to make sure he/she has been dropped from a course.

First Day Drop Policy

Students will be administratively dropped from a course if:

  • you do not attend the first scheduled session of that course AND
  • have not notified the instructor prior to the class period that you will be absent.

To notify an instructor: Email or phone (262) 335-5200 and ask to have a message placed in the instructor's mailbox.

Withdrawal & Refund Information

Withdrawal is termination of your registration in all courses for the semester. Non attendance does not constitute official withdrawal. If you do not officially withdraw, you will receive grades in all courses for which you were registered and you will be responsible for tuition. Use one of these three methods to officially withdraw:

  • Online - Log into PRISM and follow online instructions.

  • Withdrawal Form - Submit a completed Withdrawal Form to the Student Services Office. The effective date of withdrawal is the date the form is received in Student Services.
  • Signed Letter - Direct a dated letter with signature to the Student Services Office, stating your desire to withdraw. The postmark date will determine the effective date of withdrawal. The letter must be postmarked no later than the end of the tenth week of classes (for semester long classes). A two-day grace period is allowed.

Deadline for withdrawal is:

  • End of the 10th week of a semester-long course
  • End of the 5th week of an 8-week class
  • End of the 3rd week plus 1 day for a 5-week course
