Are you interested
in a Chemistry Major?
Chemists are scientists who study the
composition, structure and change of matter. They are often
involved in the discovery or synthesis of new compounds and
in the production of many consumer products: food additives,
pharmaceuticals, plastics, etc. |

Dr. Mohamed Ayoub (Chemistry) discusses an
experiment with students. |

If you are planning to major in chemistry or another major
that requires multiple chemistry courses, you will spend
your freshman and sophomore years at UW-Washington County
studying the sciences, humanities, social sciences,
mathematics, English composition and specific chemistry
courses. Your junior and senior years at your transfer
institution will be devoted in large part to specialized
coursework in your major.
The labs at UW-WC are equipped with state-of-the-art
instruments used in the separation and identification of
chemical compounds. Instruments typically used by students
include gas chromatographs, infrared spectrophotometers, and
ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometers. Computers are at
each lab station to assist in the acquisition and analysis
of experimental data. |
