The Certificate in Business program
in the UW Colleges presents an exciting opportunity for Wisconsin
college students to deepen their understanding of the world of business
in the modern political, social and economic environment. The program
introduces freshman and sophomore college students to business theory
and practice. Students take a diverse set of courses that help them
to broaden their perspectives, and gain a good awareness and comprehension
of the business world.
Students may use the Certificate in Business program
to:
- Effectively bundle your electives for maximum benefit
within the Associate degree
- Lead to a specialization
- Support a business major as you pursue a bachelor’s
degree
- Highlight educational achievements on your resume
Requirements:
The Business Certificate requires 25-26 credits, which include classes
in Business, Computer Science, Economics, and/or Mathematics. Specified
pre-requisite courses must be completed. There is no time limit for
completion of the Certificate of Business. All courses must be completed
with a grade of "C" or better.
Business and Computer Science:
- BUS 101: Introduction to Business or BUS 110: Personal
Finance or BUS 210: Business Communication (3 credits)
- BUS 201: Introductory Accounting (4 credits)
- BUS 202: Intermediate Accounting or BUS 204: Managerial
Accounting (3 credits)
- BUS 230: Introduction to Management Information
Systems (highly recommended for Business majors); or CPS 106:
Word Processing Concepts, CPS 107: Spreadsheet Concepts, and CPS
108: Database Concepts (3 credits)
Economics and Mathematics:
- ECO 203: Economics-Macro (3 credits)
- ECO 204: Economics-Micro (3 credits)
- ECO 243: Economics and Business Statistics (highly
recommended for Business majors) or MAT 117: Elementary Statistics
(3 credits)
- MAT 210, 211 or higher
