Lecture Notes

                   

A small country consists of seven states; there are 160 seats in the legislature                    
that need to be apportioned among the seven states; and the population                    
of each state is shown in the table. Find the final appointment using the Hamilton method for each state.

Extra Credit on Exam Two:

Given a right triangle with an area of 7 and perimeter 12, find the sides. Diophantus (an ancient Greek) derived the quadratic equation 172 x = 336 x2 + 24 from the statement of the problem.

You only have to mathematically change the former into the latter equation for three points.  Since this is a quadratic  equation there are two roots or solutions, which you do not have to prove.
