Daniel Ackley has earned his DMA in Music Composition and Conducting from the University of Wisconsin Madison. He was awarded his BFA and MM in Music Theory and Composition from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. All throughout this time, his major instrument has been the alto saxophone. One of his doctoral lecture-recitals was to perform in and lecture about a modern saxophone quartet composition (actually, a postmodern one).
Dr. Ackley (soprano saxophone) founded and plays in the Moraine Saxophone Quartet with Steve Johnson (baritone), Craig Johnson (alto), and Dan Gerard (tenor).
